it is no secret that ben watt has chosen to close his acclaimed label buzzin fly to new music after ten great years as one of the uks leading dance independents. but the label has chosen to go out with a bang with one final single. unearthed from the vaults are two dazzling tracks from cornerstone artists, rodamaal, and manoo and francios a. rodamaals fortune was originally completed back in 2007 but scheduling problems prevented it from being released at the time. produced by the franco-portuguese trio (rocco, darkmountaingroups alex santos and manoo) it is a stark but emotionally-charged deep-techno masterpiece, that deserves its place alongside their other classics for the label, musica feliz and insomnia. on the flip, and originally produced in 2005, is other places a long-lost track by manoo and francois a. full of summer shimmer and heavy bass tones, it was produced by the duo during their heyday at the label, and was a secret favourite of label boss, ben watt. two perfect swansongs. buzz buzz.

deadly poison is the fourth installment of st petersburg-based producer sanys on discerning downfall theory series. retaining to the a/b format and treading a heady, analogue-hued line with releases thus far on predecessors control freak / event horizon, forward thinking logic and daily situation which supported a stunning rework from chicago-based, detroit-born producer alex israel, deadly poison continues to march on in gritty, idiosyncratic fashion only this time fractioning off and multiplying into four distinct, yet symbiotic floor workouts. on the a-side hired guns kicks off with no-holds barred, full-on weighty bass weaponry before grab them back in reins things in, just a little: a dystopic soundtrack full of clanging machines rung through with the filmy dread of a waning humanity. on the b-side concern continues in plain rude as distorted vocals are twisted into evil barks and plied with itchy hats to warning chimes and a bounding bassline in this weird and wonky builder. down and dirty then concludes—as the title suggests—in deep, raw analogue terrain. having already caught the attention of people like blawan, rivet and brendon moeller, deadly poison consolidates sanys skills as a one to watch maker of provocative, sensitive and fiercely independent dance music.

currently two of the busiest men in contemporary deep house, alex agore and james johnston have still found the time to establish their joint no matter what recordings as a potent outlet. this sixth release sees johnston at the buttons for sole control after a couple of split releases and the consumer ep demonstrates a further refinement of his own distinct brand of house music. arriving on transparent vinyl, lead track give him prozac sets the tone with a thick four note synth lead that accrues all manner of dreamlike analogue qualities as it progresses backed by those crisp rolling rhythms johnston is known for. columbo likes the nightlife takes things on a notably deeper path, all dubby chords and intricate skipping percussive touches augmented by epic sweeping textures, whilst face down and they had cocktails maintains the same feel if upping the pace somewhat. johnston ends strongly with the sublime analogue build of the sleepwalker.
